How to Care for Wool Sweaters

Things You Need:

* Garment brush
* Stain remover
* Poster board

* Mild detergent
* Cotton cloths
* Clean towel

People have worn wool for thousands of years, especially in women’s sweaters. Numerous types of wool exist, so there are many different ways to care for the fabric. In general, wool is meant to be dry cleaned. However, in many cases it can also be hand washed. Brushing, stain removal and proper storage are also important aspects of wool sweater care.

Wool Sweater Care:

1. Remove soil and dirt from wool sweaters by brushing with a garment brush. Move the brush lengthwise along the sweater before and after each use for best results. Use a damp cotton cloth instead of a brush for men’s wool sweaters and women’s wool sweaters with a finer nap.

2. Treat stains on wool sweaters immediately to prevent setting. Blot as much of the stain as possible from the sweater using a clean cotton cloth. Do not rub, as this can force the stain farther into the fabric. Use a laundry stain remover formulated for use on wool according to the manufacturer’s instructions, or take the garment to a dry cleaner as soon as possible.

3. Make a stencil of the sweater’s original shape. Lay the sweater on a large piece of poster board and trace its shape before washing. When washed, wool loses its shape and must be reshaped while drying. A stencil will help you reshape the sweater correctly and prevent it from drying in the wrong shape.

4. Use a mild detergent to wash wool. Fill a sink or small bucket with warm water and add one or two tablespoons of detergent formulated for use on wool. Place the sweater into the water and gently squeeze with your hands for about three minutes. Do not wring or agitate the sweater but allow the detergent and water to penetrate its fibers.

5. Rinse the sweater thoroughly with cool water to remove all the detergent. Gently squeeze with your hands to remove any excess water and then place the sweater on a clean towel. Roll up the sweater in the towel to absorb any water.

6. Place the sweater on the stencil you created earlier. Pat the garment out to its correct shape and allow it to air dry. Never hang wool sweaters to dry or place them in direct sunlight. If you’re having trouble getting a sweater dry, aim a small fan toward it to expedite the process.

7. Brush sweaters thoroughly after washing and drying. Store in an airtight bag or container in a cool, dry place. You may also hang wool sweaters on padded hangers in zip-up garment bags, if necessary.

Tips and Warnings:

1.Wrapping paper or any other large piece of paper may be used to trace the shape of the wool sweater if poster board is not available.

2. Wash wool sweaters by hand once per season or whenever necessary.

3. Always check the label on wool garments before washing. If the label says “dry clean only,” do not attempt to wash by hand. You risk losing color, shape and texture if the garment has not been treated for washing. Take it to the dry cleaner once or twice a year, or any time it becomes soiled, to preserve the integrity of the garment.

4. Never wash wool sweaters in hot water, and never put them in a washing machine or dryer. Hang only on padded hangers. They retain their shape best if folded.

Tips on Buying a Pea Coat

When you want stylish women's coats that won't have you looking like the Abominable Snowman all winter long, try a women's pea coat on for size. These versatile ladies' coats come in many different colors and fabrics, and many pea coats also feature fun details, such as toggles, cargo pockets, wrap belts and oversized buttons. Read on for tips on buying a pea coat this season.

Buying a Pea Coat:

1. Choose a fabric. A women's pea coat is often made of wool, but you can find these ladies' coats in polyester, cashmere and cotton, depending on how heavy you'd like your winter coats to be. Purchase lighter coats made of corduroy or flannel for a great fit you can wear in autumn and look for coats for women lined with fleece or thick wool for wintertime.

2. Find the right fit. Most pea coats hit at about the hip, but some women's coats come in cropped styles that fall to the natural waistline or extend to about mid-thigh. If you live in an area with extreme temperatures, you may want to look for women's winter coats that cover your bottom and are a bit longer than traditional pea coats. Make sure the women's outerwear you purchase is also flattering on your figure. If you're curvy, you may want to buy coats that include a belt to define your waist. Double-breasted women's winter coats can fill out a narrow frame.

3. Pick a great style. The classic single-breasted pea coat has been a favorite for decades, but you can mix things up a bit with the following stylish coats for women. Buy a hooded pea coat to protect yourself from frigid temperatures and snow storms. Look for winter coats with funnel necks and pleated hems for an ultra-trendy look. Don't forget to buy a belted pea coat that also includes buttoned pockets and a stylish high collar.

4. Select the perfect color. Find women's outerwear in bold colors, such as cherry red or royal blue, to make a statement wherever you go or buy a hooded pea coat in black, grey, white or brown to complement your wardrobe. If you want a unique pea coat, purchase one in a traditional plaid pattern or look for a coat in tweed or houndstooth.

So I'm feeling like I Need a Break...

Today is one of those days where I wish I could be in my pajamas all day long. I
want to be curled up with a blanket and watch movies all day in my pajamas. Ladies, I know there are days when you want to do the same. Hair is thrown up in a ponytail and the day is just a chill day... Well this is what I am wanting to do.. This pajama set looks really cozy!

Now here is another pajama set that I think looks comfortable as well as practical.  I am a huge fan of wearing tanks to bed so I thought I would be bold and change up the color a little.  As, I have stated before I am  not a big fan of the color red, but for some reason I am being drawn to this color.

This third pajama set is more my style for bed.  I thought this was pretty cute and wanted to share it with you as well.  Enjoy my list of pajamas and the thought of just staying at home and relaxing!

How to Wear Heels without Pain

or many women, heels present a conundrum: fashion or comfort? Although high heels are undeniably stylish and add flair to countless outfits, they can cause pain and possible injury. Take time when buying high heels and search for quality shoes. When wearing your heels choose your steps carefully and take care to treat your feet well.

  Painlessly Wearing Heels:

1. Buy quality shoes. Cheap heels can be excruciating; when it comes to shoes, it always pays to invest in quality construction and materials. Look for a pair on which the heel is solidly attached to the center of the shoe backing. No matter the height, a well-made pair of heels should be stable. Consider also the quality of materials and look at the seams to be sure that they will not weaken. When in doubt, opt for established brands, so you can be certain that you are getting quality shoes.

2. Choose heels you will be able to walk in. Be realistic about your level of comfort while wearing heels. Look for shoes in which you will be able to navigate sidewalk cracks, potholes and bumps. Will you be able to jump over a puddle without twisting your ankle in platform heels? If you have weak ankles, look for lower heels to avoid injury. Likewise, if you are new to heels or notoriously clumsy, choose lower or thicker heels until you can gauge your ability to walk in different styles. Avoid stiletto heels until you are comfortable wearing smaller heels. And once you have the heels, practice walking around in them at home, up and down stairs, and for short distances.

3. Take a load off. To save your feet, remove them slightly from your heels when sitting down. Be careful not to take them off completely, or your feet can swell and cause you even more pain. Instead, slide your heel up and the ball of your foot back just enough to take off the pressure. This will provide some relief without allowing room for swelling. If you are sitting behind a desk or in an audience, this can be done unobtrusively. If you are sitting in front of people, bend your knees and cross your legs at the ankle before sliding your feet out of the heels.

4.Buy gel insoles. Anticipating the need for comfortable heels, manufacturers of gel insoles have begun making products that fit heels. These insoles are narrower and shorter than those for other shoes, allowing them to be applied to the inside of heels without sticking out at the sides or either end. They generally use a mild adhesive to stick to the shoe and provide extra comfort and cushioning to protect your feet. Such insoles can be purchased for pumps or sandal-style heels

5. Try to walk less. When wearing platform heels or stiletto heels, the easiest option to save your feet from pain is to walk as little as possible. Take taxis, park closer to your office and sit as often as possible. If you preserve your feet for the times you really need to walk, you will appear more poised and graceful; there is nothing graceful about limping from heel pain. For times when you can't avoid extensive walking, carry moleskin with an adhesive side and apply it to the inside of your shoes on areas that rub. This will prevent blisters and increase the comfort of your heels. You might also consider bringing a pair of flats or flip-flops to relieve your feet at the end of a day or during downtime.
